Glossary
Orphan Page
A page with no internal links pointing to it. The architecture forbids publishing any node with fewer than three internal inbound links (Architecture Section 3.4).
In plain terms
A page with no internal links pointing to it. It may be in the sitemap, it may even be indexed, but nothing on the site leads there, which tells both readers and search engines that it does not matter.
Why it matters in Kenya
Orphans accumulate quietly: a campaign landing page left behind, a service that was removed from the menu, an old article nobody links to. We hold every page on this site to a minimum of three internal inbound links before it publishes.
What to do about it
Four checks you can run on your own site this week.
- Crawl the site and list pages with no internal links in
- Link each one properly, or redirect it if it has no job any more
- Never leave a finished campaign page floating: redirect it to the service it supported
- Check again after any redesign, when menus change and links get dropped
