Information Gain

The extent to which a page adds something (data, analysis, first-hand experience) not already available on the pages already ranking. Every Haryes page must carry at least one element of it (Architecture Section 14).

In plain terms

The extent to which a page adds something the pages already ranking do not have: original data, first-hand process detail, a price nobody else publishes, or genuine local context.

A page that competently restates what is already available has no information gain, and increasingly no reason to rank.

Why it matters in Kenya

It is the standard every page on this site is held to, and it is why the prices are published. In a market where almost nobody states a figure, stating one is itself information the reader cannot get elsewhere.

What to do about it

Four checks you can run on your own site this week.

  • Before publishing, name the one thing on the page a competitor cannot copy
  • Prefer your own figures, process and experience over summarising others
  • Interview the people who do the work rather than researching from search results
  • If you cannot find the gain, do not publish the page
